PARKS

L-R: Bois de Boulagne, Bois de Boulagne, Parc de Sceaux, Coulée verte René-Dumont 2nd Row: Bois de Boulagne, Jardin Palais Royal, Bois de Boulagne, Jardin du Luxembourg

Jardin Palais Royal: 1st arrondissement

- Go in every season to see the rectangel trees change colors!

-Grab the best chai latte from Café Kitsune and sit by the fountain

-On your way take pictures at the black and white colums in the courtyard.

Jardin du Tuileries: 1st arrondissement 🟡🟣

- Leading to the Louvre it's hard to miss this park!

- Stroll through from the Louvre to Place de Concorde and try not to get hit by a car crossing the street.

- Don't miss the Christmas Market and Vin Chaud!

Place de Voyages: 4th arrondissement

- A quaint park to meet a friend and sunbath in the grass by fountains.

-Can get very busy when the weather is nice

Jardin des Plantes: 5th arrondissement

- Home to the 2nd oldest zoo in Europe full of endangered species and the most active panther I have ever seen.

- Beautiful flower gardens and the Musem of Natural History (interactive and great for

kids)

Jardin du Luxembourg: 6th arrondissement 🟡🟣

- There are so many little corners to this par

- A pay to play playground (fun), tennis courts, carasel, and more.

- Stroll through or grab a chair and sunbathe by the fountains while little sail boats float around

Coulée Vert Réne-Dumont: 12th arrondissement

- This garden walkway is above the city think a green version of the new York high line and is a beautiful site.

- In spring time the flowers are blooming in so many colors and the smells are like nothing I have experienced before. There are multiple staircases to get up and off. Grab a coffee and croissant and take a nice walk with views of the city.

Bois de Vincennes: 12th arrondissement

- On the far East side of Paris, this is a foresty forest, a great escape from the city.

- Bring a picnic and enjoy the nature around you.

Bois de Boulogne: 16th arrondissement 🟣💗

- My favorite place in Paris. A little escape from the bustle of the city.

- With two lakes, multiple park sections, resturants, access to the hippodrome, a park area, and hills the park has SO much to offer.

- My little tip: walk around the lake and find a shady/sunny spot to picnic and paint with friends! *pick up cheap supplies at Søstrene Grene (Passy has a location!)

Parc de Sceaux:

- Though technically not in Paris, this park is easily accessible on the RER.

- Famous for her cherry blossoms in April/May!

MUSEUMS

L-R: Louvre, Musée Arts Décoratif (Petit Prince), Musée Rodin, Musée Arts Décoratif (Thierry Mugler), Musée de l'Homme, 2nd Row: Musée D'Orsay, L'Orangerie, Louvre (Napolean Residents), Louvre x2

Louvre: 1st arrondissement 🟡🟣(inside if: you like art/to say you have, must: pics outside)

- Going inside the Louvre twice, I some how always managed to get lost and end up in the same weird basement spot! I would recommend finding a map before going and sorting out what you really want to see. *Standing in line to see the Mona Lisa is not worth it, you can see her just fine by walking past

- The gift shop is confusing and hard to find (you don't have to go to the one INSIDE the museum) but on your way out to the metro or outside you will run into shops and there will be a gift shop there.

- The pyramid is an iconic picture place. To avoid tourists you can take pictures on Monday when the Louvre itself is closed. And if you are around after dark try and snag a picture with it all lit up.

*Free for EU residents under 26yrs old (ex: if you have an EU visa for the year)

L'Orangerie: 1st arrondissement 🟣

- A small museum but the home of Monet's famous water lilies. A beautiful museum to sit and take in the details of the art.

- Situated in the Tuleries near Place de Concorde

*Free for EU residents under 26yrs old (ex: if you have an EU visa for the year)

Musée Arts Décoratif: 1st arrondissement

- A musem with roating exhibitions keep an eye out for whats on when you're in town! Well done and worth it.

- EX: An encounter with The Little Prince, Thierry Mugler

Musée Carnavalet: 3rd arrondissement

- Free for all this museum has a TON of Paris history, cool pictures, and displays

Musée D'Orsay: 7th arrondissement 🟡🟣💗(don't have to go inside this and the Louvre)

- This museum is a sampling of everything. Set in an old train station, just going inside is cool. There are statues, furniture, impressionist, and so much more. I have loved exploring more than once.

- Beautiful impressionist art upstairs!

*Free for EU residents under 26yrs old (ex: if you have an EU visa for the year)

Musée Rodin: 7th arrondissement

- A beautiful outside and nice inside. Tucked away, its a quiet place to explore or sit and reflect for a bit.

- Really friendly employees

Centre Pompidou: 4th arrondissement

- Personally, I do not understand Modern or Contemporaty art but the view from the terrace is the best view I've seen of Sacre Coeur

- Fun for kids

*Free for EU residents under 26yrs old (ex: if you have an EU visa for the year)

Musée de la vie Romantique: 9th arrondissement

- Free for all this museum is in a cute little house with a nice café attached.

- Go for a coffee and pie, then stay to see some art

Musée Marmottan Monet: 16th arrondissement

- A museum FULL of Monet paintings.

- Keep your eye open for limited time exhibits that come through this museum!

Palais Galleria: 16th arrondissement

- Exhibits constantly come and go from this pretty museum!

-Downstairs is a beautiful collection of clothing, accessories, photography, and more from French 18th century to today.

- Ex: Vogue, Love Brings Love: The Tribute to Alber Elbaz Show

A list of Museums I specifically took my au pair kids to Modern Art Museum: 16th (^view)

Musée de L'homme: 16th (^view/access)

Cité de l'architecture: 16th (^view/access)

Musée du Quai Branly: 15th (^access)

Musée National des Arts Asaitques Guimet: 16th

Muséum National d'Histoire naturelle: 5th

MONUMENTS and SIGHTS

L-R: Moulin Rouge, Panthéon, le mur de je t'aime, view from Pont Neuf 2nd Row: Palais Royal Courtyard, Sainte-Chapelle, view from Père-Lachaise, 3rd Row: Champs de Mars, Sacré-Coeur, Emily in Paris courtyard, view from Arc de Triomphe, 4th Row: Notré-Dame, Catacombs, view from Montparnasse, Arc by Louvre.

Sainte-Chapelle: 1st arrondissement 🟣

- The most beautiful stained glass. Best to go on a sunny day to get the full effect. Make sure to make reservations. And note it sis a short visit.

Cathédrale Notre-Dame: 1st arrondissement 🟡🟣

- Though the inside was closed the entire time I was there, it was a must to see the outside and walk all the way around.

The Pantheon: 5th arrondissement

- I personally didn't go inside, but many say its cool. The view from the outside was cool

Eiffel Tower: 7th arrondissement 🟡🟣💗(picnic is a must, up it is a treat)

- It is controversial but I hink its so worth going all the way up to the top. If you can go when the sun is setting, personally I think it is the place to look out and see the city at night.

- Being on the second floor while it sparkles is fun

- The tower lights up when the sun goes down (so its different seasonally) and sparkles on the hour for 5 mins until 1 am.

- A picnic with wine, cheese, and a baguette on the Champs de Mars is a MUST both during the day and in the evening

- I like to play a game of "oh can you see the Eiffel Tower"? Just some places:

Pont Mirabeau (w/ statue of liberty in background)

Statue of Liberty park

Pont Alma Marceau

Palais de Tokyo

Trocedero (so many people take pics here) & fountain & bridge

Louvre (you can see the tip)

Pont Neuf (far away really pretty during sunset)

Arc D'Triomphe: 8th arrondissement 🟣

- Lots of stairs, little museum, cool view

Galeries Lafayette Haussmann: 9th arrondissement

- Galeries Lafayette is the company that does many of the "malls" in Paris so watch out which one you put in your maps!

- Haussmann is known for their wonderful window displays but a little known secret is you can go all the way to the rooftop and have a free city view! (^ view)

Opera Garnier: 9th arrondissement

- The outside is BEAUTIFUL during golden hour

- Totally worth going inside, I would suggest getting a tour of some sort though, we went and walked around on our own and there wasn't much information availble.

- It is super crowded so don't be dissapointed when you can't get your instagram princess photo.

Place de Bastille: 11th arrondissement

- There is a statue here of importance but its not sspecial haha. But the bar/club scene is great here!

Les Catacombs: 14th arrondissement

- Guided audio tour had lots of info. A cool experience but not necessary if you have limited time.

- Be aware it does get a little closter phobic at parts

Montparnasse Tower: 15th arrondissement

- The best part of the view from the top is that the tower itself is not in it. Good day view. Helpful to understand the layout of Paris.

Montmartre Cemetery: 18th arrondissement - The city has grown around this cemetery, there are streets running above and around. (notable dead people too, EX: Emile Zola)

- Cemetaries offer a nice walk, interesting graves, and a time to reflect on what you are doing with your life.

Sacré-Coeur: 18th arrondissement 🟣💗

- The inside is always SO busy, but it is beautiful. Take your time looking at all the paintings and engravings. Also walk around the whole outside of the church, each angle offers something different.

- Walking around Montmatre will include a lot of hills BUT note the metro stop does have an elevator so you don't have to walk allll the stairs.

- The view from Sacré-Coeur is the best at sunrise.

Père Lachaise Cemetery: 20th arrondissement

- Beautiful view, notable dead people to see (Ex: Oscar Wilde & Edith Piaf) , a space to picinic at the top

- This is where Luc takes Emily in Emily in Paris

- It is quiet and yet you can see the whole city

DAY TRIPS

1st Row: Giverny Fall 2nd Row: Giverny Spring 3rd Row: Fall + Art inside house

Giverny 💗

- One of the BEST decisions I made was going to Giverny in both the fall and the spring (a perk of being their for a year).

- Both times I did this trip I left around 8am or so and was home by 3pm so I could work that evening. If you have the time to wonder around the little town (of Vernon and of Giverny), go to other museums, or eat a full meal by all means do so!

- My day:

- Transport: Train from Gare Saint-Lazare to Vernon (about 45mins) then from Vernon take the little shuttle to Monet's house or rent a bike! (In the fall we took the shuttle it was 8euros round trip but beaware of the timing to get back to the train station. In the spring we rented bikes (decently priced) and road about 30mins one way - a lovel and easy ride)

- Grab a croissant and hot coco from Le Temps des Fleurs before heading up to Monet's house.

- Walk the front gardens, explore the inside of his home, linger around the water lily pond, and then back to the gardens to exit through the gift shop.

Château de Versailles 💗🟣

- I ventured to Versailles three times during my stay but could have sat in the gardens many more times. Just a short RER ride from Paris.

- The gardens live up to the hype, the summer water and fire show is a MUST if you are there when its happening. Be ready for LOTS OF WALKING. There are rentable and shuttle options if you need.

- I highly recommend venturing all the way to Marie-Antoinette's Estate with the Hamlet (It looks like something out of a fairy tale village - think Belle from Beauty and the Beast, with animals) and Petit and Grande Trianon.

- The inside of THE Palace is overwhelming and so crowded, but with the audio tour you can walk around on your own time and see a lot of history. The most interesting part was so many other palaces around Europe are inspired by the Sun King so exploring Versailles first was a cool conection.

- I took two of my host girls once and we picniced in the gardens (for free) and then rented out a row boat for 30mins and it was SO fun. Lived by Noah and Allie moment and we laughed about how difficult it actually was to row! Then snagged some crêpes and ice cream for our walk back to the RER station.

Château de Chantilly

- A short train ride from Gare du Nord the town of Chantilly and its Castle is a great day adventure. There is a free bus from the train station in Chantilly to the castle. Walking through the gates I felt like a princess. For any "Reign" fans this castle beloned to Henri d'Orléans the Duke of Aumale and the castle includes the Musée Condé, a name you wil recognize from teh show.

- After explroing the Castle and its massive grounds, head on over to the largest princely stables of Europe and catch a horse show or just wonder the horse muesum.

- The town of Chantilly itself is adorbale and offers cute shops and yummy eateries (I had a crêpe and drink somehwere) but note lots of places are closed on Sundays.

Disneyland Paris

- Just an RER ride away, this trip is worth it if you are a Disney fan and are around for awhile. Comparing the differenec between rides is super fun (Space Mountain is a fun surprise). It is a lot smaller so you don't need more than a day to explore. Make sure to catch the parade at least once! Watch your timing, we had difficulty finding food at some point. And also make sure you know when the last RER AND Metro run so you can get home!

DAY WALKS

Montmatre

- When you hop off line 12 at Abbesses look to your left and get your photo at Le Mur des Je t'aime, an art piece with "I love you" in hundreds of languages. As you wonder up the winding streets you will find yourself at Place de Tertre where artists gather to show off their work, take your time exploring their stands and walking in and out of all the little art shops, making your way to Sacré-coeur and the view it holds. Grenouille is my favorite spot on the side street to grab a crêpe.

- In the winter snag a 3euro vin chaud to walk around with

- Not technically in Montmatre anymore, on the other side of Bd de Clichy you can mosey down to the Moulin Rouge, make a reservation at Pink Mamma for some delicious pizza or grab a baguette sandwhich and picnic at a fountain or Montmatre Cemetary.

Saint-Michel Notre-Dame

- One of my favorite areas to walk around.

- Get off on metro line 10 at Cluny La Sorbonne or Maubert and walk toward the water. From here you can walk across and wonder Île de la Cité, then walk back across and see Shakespeare and Company - the line to get inside can get super long during tourist season but if it is short, its worth going inside. The café has really good scones with jam and creme! From Pont du Double you can get a great picture of Notre-Dame. While walking the Seine make sure to stop at the Bouquiniste (the green pop up markets) sift through the old post cards, books, and posters. Make your way to Pont Neuf to make a full cross to the otherside of the Seine where you will now be ready to walk to The Louvre.

- This area has SO much to offer your day could go in many different directions!

Passages

- You could casually end up in a passage way walk if you are wondering around Le Marais or "old" Paris or if you look up a comprehensive list there are great suggestions of walking paths specifcally to see the passage ways.

- Inside you will find eclectic stores and hidden cafés.

Churches

- One friend and I found ourselves in the 2nd arrondissement and simply google maped "Eglisé" and "church" and wondered in and out of beautiful churches for an hour or so.

- If this interests you hit me up. I can dig through my photos and map haha!

Areas to Walk around:

- Le Marais: between the 3rd and 1st arrondissement this area is full of vintage shops, cafés, and museums.

- Rue de Passy: 16th arrondissement this street takes you from the Eiffel tower all the way to Jardin du Ranelagh with boutique shops, La Grande Épicerie, and just a cute "downtown" feel.

- Champs-Élysées: I will say it, shopping here is silly. BUT the decoration for different seasons, saying you walked it, and looking both ways seeing the Arc de Triomphe in one direction and Place de la Concorde all the way down to Musée du Louvre on the other side is pretty cool.

- * Everything in Paris is closer than you think it is. It is super easy to accidentally end up walking 2 miles wondering from one monuement or side street to the next. And I am sure I missed some! Make sure to comment your favorite walks in Paris.

FOOD BY ARRONDISSEMENT

L-R: La Crème de Paris, Café George V, Breakfast in America, a forgotten place in Montmatre (srry), Shakespeare & Co. 2nd Row: La Perla, 46th&3rd, Eggs & Co Paris, Le Nemours Café, 13 au Jardin 3rd Row: Madison Café, a random boulangerie, Love Juice Bar, a place in Chantilly, Bon Bouquet

I am sure I missed places from my time, even as I am editing and finding photos, I am remembering places I forgot to list! Paris is a place you can easily just happen upon a café to grab a glass of wine, coffee, or cocktail and on the enxt corner snag a baguette sandwhich or croissant from the local boulangerie. Some of these places I have very specific suggestions or tips, and others are pretty generic - so good luck!
