Overwhelming. Never-ending. Reckless love of God.

I was shuffling through the radio, as I do with my radio ADD, on my way to the chiropractor this morning and for a moment I settled on Seattle's Christian radio station Spirit 105.3. Reckless Love by Cory Asbury was playing. Now I have heard this song many times this summer but for some reason I actually listened to the lyrics this morning and throughout the song you hear the line "Overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God" multiple times. I really needed to hear those words today, but what do they mean in this context? Lets break down the phrase.
Overwhelming: I think of the moments when I have so many things going on I start to drown emotionally and mentally and start to tread water. I think of not knowing which direction to go because there is too much. But I also think of the feeling of the amount of people who rushed to my side in my breakup, or when I won a pageant, or continue to message me after my LIVE Instagram videos or a blog post.
Textbook definition: very great in amount.
God's Love context: So so so so so MUCH that we don't know what to do with it all (in a positive way)
Never-Ending: Forever, continuous. Of course we use this word for dramatic effect "oh this story is never-ending, this line is never-ending". We use the phrase to complain about hardships and seasons in life. But in truth all that will end.
Textbook definition: (especially of something unpleasant) having or seeming to have no end
God's Love context: Never ending means it will not cease, nothing can stop it. (in a positive way)
Reckless: I think of stupid boys doing stupid dangerous things because they think its funny. Or girls giving away there hearts to boys who don't know how to take care of it. Or crossing the street without looking both ways first. It is not thinking through the consequence, it is not processing how what you are about to do will effect you later.
Textbook definition: (of a person or their actions) without thinking or caring about the consequences of an action
God's Love context: Knowing the consequences and not caring about the self sacrifice
"When I used the phrase, 'the reckless love of God,' when we say it, we're not saying that God Himself is reckless, He's not crazy. We are, however, saying that the way He loves, is in many regards, quite so. But what I mean is this: He's utterly unconcerned with the consequences of His own actions with regard to His own safety, comfort and well-being. He doesn't wonder what He'll gain or lose by putting Himself on the line, He simply puts Himself out there on the off-chance that you and I might look back at Him and give Him that love in return." - Cory Asbury.
God loves us regardless of EVERYTHING we do. He has an overwhelming amount of love for us. There is SO MUCH LOVE that it is never-ending. We will die one day but there will still be love from God to us. We may (we will) do stupid things and there will still be love from God to us. And this kind of love is reckless. God gives us a reckless love. He knows that we will turn away sometimes, He knows that we are not perfect and will disobey, and those facts will hurt him but He loves with his whole heart regardless. God himself is NOT reckless, do not get this confused, but the type of love He gives, that is reckless love.
I needed this reminder, that God's love for me is so big. If God can love me recklessly regardless of my imperfections then I should be able to trust him with my life. I shouldn't be upset with Him for my circumstances or for not clearly telling me what my next step is or for the fact that I do not understand His plan for my life. But I need to trust and be patient because someone who loves me that much must have something amazing planned.
My charge to you is to listen to this song and really take a look at the lyrics. See what stands out to you, or resonates with you, and why it does in this moment. With any song you listen to, really hear the lyrics and let them sink in. Sing along once you understand. Pray the words. Worship with the words. Enjoy the words.
My prayer for you is that you see how big God's love for you is and you trust Him in both the valleys and the mountain tops.
